Ankita in round 2, Kyra goes down at $25,000 ITF Women's Tennis
• Topseeds Szatmari Thyssen upset in doubles

Pune , November 10: Wildcard Ankita Bhambri of India scored an exiting win against Varatchaya Wongteanchai of Thailand , while another wildcard Kyra Shroff went down fighting to Leonie Mekel of Netherlands at the $25,000 NECC- ITF women's tennis Championships sponsored by the National Egg Coordination committee ( NECCC) being organized by the Deccan Gymkhana and being played on their courts here.

In the first round singles played today 384th ranked wildcard entrant Bhambri recovering from a sore throat came back from being 1-4 down in the second set to score a 6-3,-4 win over the 447th ranked Thai player Wongteanchai. India's promising youngster and silver medalist at the Commonwealth Youth games Kyra Shroff went down fighting to the 460th ranked Dutch player Leonie Mekel 6-7(7-3) , 6-2,6-3 in a 2 hr tussle
Another wildcard entrant Uzbek Junior Alexandra Kolesnichenko ranked 662 scored a 7-6(7-1),6-2 win over qualifier Hae-Sung Kim of Korea , while second seeded Korean Ye Ra Lee ranked 192 routed Ellora Dabija of Romania 6-3,6-3 to move into the second round.


Dabija partnering Bojana Jovanovski created the biggest upset when they knocked out top seeds Agnes Szatmari of Romania and Nicole Thyssen of Nedelands 6-2, 6-3 in the first round of the doubles

The tournament was inaugurated at the hands of International shooter Anjali Bhagwat and Secretary of AITA Anil Khanna. Tournament director Anand Tulpule welcomed the guests, while organizing Secretary Nitin Joshi proposed the vote of thanks. The Secretary of MSLTA Sharad Kannamwar, BSR Shastry of NECC and the Hon Secretary of Deccan Gymkhana Vishwas Lokare were present on the occasion. Both Bhagwat and Khanna were also conferred honorary membership of the century year old club.
