Lucky loser Chivate scrapes into round 2
Pune, Nov 3: Local player and lucky loser entrant Parth Chivate made the most of his luck as he put out Parth Shah 6-4, 6-7(8-6), 6-3 in a thrilling encounter to make it to the second round of the Walchand Cup
under 16 National Series Tennis Tournament' sponsored by Walchandnagar Industries as a part of their centenary celebrations and organized by Deccan Gymkhana and played on their tennis courts here.
In another interesting encounter Shaikh Wahab scraped past Swapnil Saraiya 3-6, 6-4, 6-1 to make it to the second round. Sixth seeded Suraj Kanwar of Gujarat overcame initial hiccups to win 7-6(8-6), 6-3 against qualifier Ashman Ghogari. All the other seeds had easy outings on their way to the second round.
The tournament was inaugurated at the hands of President of the Walchandnagar Industries Mr. S.S Gangavati, who announced that the event would be an annual feature on the city's tennis map.
Jt. Secretary of MSLTA Anand Tulpule and J.N Nandurkar of WIL presided over the function. Mr. Vishwas Lokare, Secretary Deccan Gymkhana welcomed the guests, while tournament director Nitin Joshi proposed the vote of thanks.
