ITF Futures - Day 4

Gajjar lone Indian in Semis of $15000 Deccan Gymkhana – AITA Men’sTennis Futures
Pune, October 9: Rohan Gajjar will be lone Indian in action in theSemifinals, as other Indians Karan Rastogi , Rupesh Roy Ranjit ViraliMurugesan , Vijayant Malik crashed out of the $15000 DeccanGymkhana-AITA Men’s ITF Tennis Futures organized by the DeccanGymkhana Club at their tennis courts.
Top seeds Daniel King Turner, second seed Alexander Satschko andfourth seeded Young –Jun Kim of Korea also made it to the last fourstage.
In the event supported by Bilcare Foundation Rohan Gajjar displayedaggression to put out country mate Vijayant Malik 6-0, 6-3 in a 54minute tussle. “I’m thrilled the way I played, I’ve been playing welland hope to do better here” said the lanky Gajjar after his match.With this performance Gajjar is expected to break in the top 500bracket.
In the semifinals Gajjar will take on second seeded Alexander Satschkoranked 323 in a one sided 1 hour 27 min encounter Satschko playedsolid tennis to outplay fifth seed Ranjeet Virali Murugesan 6-1,6-3.
Top seeded and 317th ranked New Zealand Davis Cupper Daniel kingturner spoilt the winning run of Birthday boy Karan Rastogi stoppinghim 6-3,6-2 in a 1 hr 5 minute match. Turner looked in great form ashe attacked rastogi on both flanks. “I’ve heard Karan is good player,but today I planned my match. I’m happy to play in India and I like toplay here” Turner said.
Turner will take on Fourth seeded Kim Young Jun of Korea, who wasgiven a fright by eighth seeded Rupesh Roy, runners-up of the KolkattaFutures last week. Kim Young won 2-6,6-2,6-3 in a 1hour 42 minutematch . Roy broke him in the 1st and 5th game of the first set to takethe set at 6-2. Roy looked comfortable leading 2-1 I the second setbut Kim lifted his game and pace and went on to break Roy in the 6thand 8th games in the second set and take the set 6-2 and level scores.In the third set Kim broke Roy in the sixth game and then held hisserves to win the set and the match 6-3.
Gajjar along with Purav Raja also made it to the Men’s doubles finalin the semifinals the pair managed to scrape past Mithun Murali and N.Vijay Sundar Prasanth 3-6, 6-4, 10-5. They will now take on DivijSharan and Vishnu Vardhan who survived 2 match points to get pastAbhijeet Tiwari and Akash Wagh 6-1,6-7(8-6) 10-6 to make it to finals.
The singles semifinals will be played 10 am onwards, followed by thedoubles finals.
