The cream of under 16 junior tennis players in India, will contest for honors in the `Walchandnagar Cup National Series Tennis Tournament to be held at the Deccan Gymkhana courts here from November 3 to 8, 2008.
The tournament director Mr. Nitin Joshi, said that this prestigious All India Tennis Association (AITA) tournament being organized under the aegis of the Maharashtra State Lawn Tennis Association (MSLTA) is being hosted by the Deccan Gymkhana Club, for the `Walchandnagar Cup' to commemorate the centenary year celebrations of one of the prominent industry in the country.
India's number one under 16 junior player Ankita Raina from Gujarat and Ramkumar Ramnathan from Tamil Nadu will head the main draw of 64 in both the girls and boys under 16. The qualifying round of the tournament will be held on November 1 and 2. in this National series tournament for junior boys and girls singles and doubles.
Announcing Walchand Industries sponsorship of this prestigious tournament, the vice presidents of the company Mre. S.S.Gangawati and J.M. Nandurkar, said that this tournament being held as part of the centenary year celebration of the company, formed the role played by its founder late Seth Hirachand Walchand , in promotion of sports.
Prominent among the junior players to be seen in action in this tournament include: Ramkumar Ramnathan (TN), Suraj Konwar (Gujrat), Navneet Kumar (Chandigarh), Surya Pavan (A), Rupam Gogoi (Assam), Ajay Yadav (Haryana), Arjun Kadhe and Tushal Thawani ,Pune, includi ng other leading players from Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Delhi.
The tussle for honors in the girls section will be led by Ankita Raina and Eetee Mehta from Gujarat, Prarthana Thombare, Vaidehi Bhagwat, Namita Bal, Tanya Gosavi all from Maharashtra, Teertha Iska, Anushka Bhargava from Andhra Pradesh, Sanjana M Kumar, Nithya Raj from Tamil Nadu, Liktiha Shetty, S,G.Abhinaya from Karnataka and Ojasvinee Singh from Madhya Pradesh., Pooja Narayan, Tarrannum Handa, Nehal Sahni from Delhi and Ikittesh Chahal,Harnoor Kaur Mann, all from Chandigarh.
